Description The wife of Rawlins Lowndes, Gertrude was a native of New York. The portrait was probably painted in New York in the mid-to late 1820s. Because of its fine detailing and aristocratic air it has been associated with Inman. However, he did few portraits of women, and he usually signed them. This miniature stands out because of its pink tonalities and exquisite detailing.
