Description |
Theodosia Burr was the daughter of U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr. As a child Theodosia not only studied French, music, and dance, but also Latin, Greek, the sciences, history, and literature, which was unusual for a young woman at the time. She was raised in New York City and in 1801 married Joseph Alston, a wealthy South Carolinian (and later governor of South Carolina). They were one of the first couples to honeymoon in Niagara Falls. |
