Description The locket is inscribed: "E. M. McPherson aged 9 years," suggesting a date of 1792 or 1793. She was the daughter of General John McPherson and sister to James. She married James Reid Pringle in 1807. More crisply painted than many of Henri's miniatures, Elizabeth McPherson's portrait resembles the portrait of Mrs. Grimke in its emphasis on her dress and hairdo. At one time the miniature was incorrectly attributed to James Peale because a "P" was identified on the ivory. This monogram is no longer visible.
