The daughter of Timothy Ford, Mary Theodora never married. This miniature is typical of Fraser's portraits of young women of the late 1830s and 1840s. Unlike the portrayals of young men, as a group these miniatures are more decorative and colorful, perhaps as a result of gayer clothing. The use of the variegated sky and the landscape also contribute to the colorful effects. For 1838 the Fraser account book lists, "Miss Ford . . . $50."
