Description |
Two portraits of a Mrs. Stead are listed in Engleheart's account book, one for 1789, the second in 1793, as "Mr. and Mrs. Steed" [sic]. The slight discrepancies between Mr. and Mrs. Stead's miniatures in coloring (hers is gray, his blue), and in scale (she is placed further back, thus is smaller than he is), suggest the portraits were not designed as a pair. Stylistically, her portrait is more linear, especially in the hair and the crisp folds of her dress.
