Description |
Son of John Gadsby Chapman, Conrad lived and trained in Italy with his father before returning to the United States before the outbreak of the Civil War to join the Confederate army. By October 9, 1863, Chapman was in Charleston, having just been promoted to Ordinance Sergeant. Assigned to the forces under General Beauregard, he was assigned to sketch the forts and batteries of Charleston. |
